Help! How long does a Saturn Return last?

What is a saturn return

Hearing a lot about Saturn returns lately? From Kacey Musgraves to Ariana Grande and SZA, Saturn has officially hit the main stage. But why are these three dynamos talking about it so much? What is a Saturn return, and how long does it last?

Don’t worry, we’ve got you. Here is your quick guide to your Saturn return. It’s got a little Saturn Return 101 and some information to help you navigate or understand what your Saturn return means for you.

What is a Saturn Return?

We all have a Natal Chart. It’s basically the map of the sky on the day you were born or at least a map of the main players in astrology. Saturn is, of course, one of them.

Saturn takes a HOT damn minute to make her way back to the place she was in when you were born. When she does, this is your Saturn return.

Depending on the astrology style you look at, Saturn represents boundaries, Karma, and structure. She’s sometimes called the Taskmaster planet.

She can also be a powerful teacher who helps bring us into maturity and helps us develop patience, which is very much her role in your Saturn return. We just don’t always enjoy her lessons. Hence, the contention you will often hear in relation to this transit.

Okay, I know. If you are in the depths of your growth phase with Saturn and are having a tough time, you’re probably chomping at the bit to be done with this chaos already. Unfortunately, this transit lasts for about 2.5-3 years, which is why it takes 27-ish years to return to your Saturn sign.

And in case you’re like me and don’t do math, this also means you will have a Saturn return every 27/28 years.

But fear not! While these times in your life can be hard and sometimes chaotic, you can do hard things! Know that this is happening in your best interest.

Do your best, feel all the feels, and try to flow with the Universe.

Saturn in Aries

Saturn is the planet of “Stop, let’s think about this.” Aries is the sign of, “Let’s f**king go!” So, if you’ve felt a push and pull throughout your life, that’s probably why. If you feel like someone poured cold water on you and your passions aren’t as passionate, Saturn might be asking you to stop and reflect on your long-term desires before charging head-first into a hyperfixation.

Saturn in Taurus

This is another push-and-pull kind of relationship. Taurus loves the finer things in life. Saturn is frugal. So, during your return, some life might be thrown at you to get you to do some financial planning and prioritization. Work at finding a balance between luxury and Dollar Store knockoffs.

Saturn in Gemini

Saturn has put a cap on your expression. During your Saturn return, you may discover a way to express yourself without criticizing or censoring yourself first. This transit might be what helps you find your voice.

Saturn in Cancer

During your return, you may find new ways to nurture and care for yourself or have a huge shift in your relationship with your mother or grandmother. This also could be the time in which you became a parent yourself.

Saturn in Leo

Being in the spotlight may be very uncomfy for you, but your return might just show you that it’s not so bad after all. Whether that means you’re able to have the focus placed on you when everyone sings you Happy Birthday without feeling like you're standing there naked… Or you’re ready to break out on the speaker’s stage. This is when you figure out how to let yourself be seen.

Saturn in Virgo

Are you naturally a very systematic and organized person? Well, your return might be ready to add some flow into your otherwise ridged life, and that could be by way of chaos. During this time, you will be forced to learn how to go with the flow.

Saturn in Libra

If your Saturn is in Libra, you may be the type of person to put your relationships or others above yourself. That might be shaken up during your return. You might find yourself in need of developing independence while learning how to balance healthy relationships.

Saturn in Scorpio

Like many things associated with Scorpio, this is going to be a time of shadowy transformations that lead to an abundance of growth. Going through the depths of your emotions and shadows may lead you to become a transformational leader.

Saturn in Sagittarius

Sagittarius is an adventurous teacher. And while you may have a rocky relationship with education or the education system, you have some natural born teaching skills that may be uncovered during this time. Maybe you discover how to travel the world teaching your favorite subject or life skill to the masses.

Saturn in Capricorn

During this time, you might realize your true career path because Capricorn is the zodiac sign of hard work. It’s also associated with fathers and men, so you might see some major changes with the men close to you (biologically or not) during this time.

Saturn in Aquarius

Did you feel the call to make some systemic change over the last few years? Aquarius is the activist of the zodiac wheel. So, if during 2020-2023, you felt more called than ever to join movements to create positive change in the world, you can thank Saturn for that.

Saturn in Pisces

As of the writing of this article, you are in the throes of your return. Maybe you’re feeling like you're carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders or have recently awakened to some spiritual healing gifts. This is going to be a time that you discover your unique way of healing through your art or work.

While experiencing the events that create the change can sometimes be difficult or even downright painful, the outcome of your Saturn return is well worth it in the end. You wouldn’t be given this challenge if you were not capable of overcoming it. You got this! Spiritual U will be here if you need support or guidance along the way!
