Winter Solstice Guide That Will Make Your 2025 Year Epic

Winter Solstice Guide

Every turning of the seasons is a time of celebration. Some more so than others. The Winter Solstice is better suited for reflection, rest, and planting seeds for the spring.

However, in the Western World, we tend to do the opposite. Instead of resting, we make ambitious goals and sprint out the gate into the New Year. But, like any sprint, the umph and gusto wain quickly, and we usually fall off the New Year's resolution wagon within a month.

It is interesting how we tend to start the year with an ambitious fire (AKA full of Capricorn energy). Then, by February, when we are fully in Aquarius season, we are brought down to a more normal level.

Instead of rushing out of the gate into 2025 full of Capricorn fire, try to follow the earthly season and plant seeds of intention for a truly epic year.

In this Winter Solstice guide, see why this solstice is definitely one you want to work with and get some special winter solstice journaling prompts along the way. You’ll also get some manifestation journal prompts and ideas on how to DIY a winter solstice ritual to make this one a solstice to remember!

Winter solstice rituals

Throughout the ages and cultures, the winter solstice has been a time of celebration before the harsh winter looms.

In East Asia, Dongzhi is celebrated as a day when Yin and Yang are perfectly balanced. Ancient Romans feasted in honor of the God Saturn, who ruled over agriculture. Ancient Persians celebrated Yalda as the victory of light over darkness and the birthday of their Sun god, Mithra.

Prior to the Christian adaptation, many Northern Europeans would celebrate Yule. The Christmas tree, Yule logs, gift-giving, and most of our Western Christmas traditions originate from this pagan festival celebrating the return of the sun and, in some regions, the Norse god Odin.

Whether you celebrate in the old ways or the new, the Winter Solstice is a time of celebration and joy.

And since we follow the Gregorian calendar, it’s also a time to reflect on the year and think about the direction and intention of the next.

The Year of a New Age

This Winter solstice is a little more special than your average winter solstice. In November, Pluto officially made his way into Aquarius(for real this time). During 2025, Jupiter, Neptune, Uranus, and Saturn will all change signs as well.

These new transits of the outer planets give way to a new age for us here on Earth.

On March 30, 2025, Neptune will make his way into Aries and will stay there until 2039, aside from a brief retrograde back into Pisces at the end of October 2025. The last time Neptune made this transition was in 1862.

This transit is giving Spiritual Warrior vibes! So, for those of you who are meant to lead the charge, you may be having a spiritual awakening, reawakening, or being pulled toward your spiritual calling in 2025.

At the end of May, Saturn will be following Neptune's lead and transiting into Aries. When the planet of limitations, boundaries, and structure meets the fiery action-driven sign of Aries, we may be faced with a call toward big changes. But don’t worry; this transit will also boost our resilience and help us take persistent action.

By Summertime, Jupiter will have left Gemini and entered the emotional sign of Cancer. Check what house Cancer rules in your chart because this area may be getting a growth spirt in the second half of 2025. Planting seeds and preparing for an abundant harvest beforehand can help you work with the Astrology of the year so you can make the most out of this opportunity.

Finally, July welcomes Uranus’s transit into Gemini, which has not happened since 1942. Radical changes in your house ruled by Gemini and in global communications can be expected during this 8-year transit.

This upcoming year/years have a lot in store for you and the collective. Knowing how these transits interact with your particular chart can help you plan what seeds to plant, plans to make, and intentions to set for the solstice and new year.

Leaning into co-creative Astrology(working with the astrology instead of letting the Astrology work you), you can put greater emphasis on specific areas of your life throughout the year.

But what about the winter solstice itself?

Planting Seeds

The Winter Solstice lands at the end of the year for us in this day and age. Making it the perfect time to reflect on areas of growth and weakness from the year. So, get your pen and paper ready because it’s time for some journaling! Use them all, or choose which resonates most with you.

Winter Solstice Journal Prompts

  1. In what ways did you transform this year?

  2. What areas of your life didn’t get enough TLC?

  3. What unexpected blessings did you receive?

  4. List some things you wish your beginning-of-the-year self would have loved to know.

  5. Did any manifestations come through for you this year? If so, what did you do to bring them about?

It’s like they say: those who don’t learn from history are doomed to repeat. By spending a little time reflecting on your recent history, you learn from them to move into next year more equipped to make it epic.

The next part of planting seeds for the Winter Solstice is to sit in gratitude. Gratitude is talked about a lot but not often practiced. But let me tell you, gratitude is a superpower. It enhances everything you do for the better. So, after you journal your little heart out about this past year, sit in gratitude for all the lessons, blessings, and growth you've made this year.

Then comes everybody's favorite part… Manifestation! Now is the time to dream big. Get delulu about the future. Shoot for the moon! Got your journal ready? Here are some journal prompts for manifesting during the winter solstice.

Manifestation Journal Prompts

  1. What are the top three areas of your life that you want to transform in 2025?

  2. What is your audacious goal for 2025?

  3. What manifestations do you feel most confident in bringing to fruition?

  4. What small action are you taking(or planning to take) to reach your career goals, personal goals, and spiritual goals?

  5. Describe the person you are manifesting growing into—the person who would have all your manifestations.

DIY Winter Solstice Ritual

Journaling is great, but manifestation works so much better when it's fun. And what's more fun than a good ritual? You don’t have to do anything specific to have a ritual, and it's honestly better when you tailor it to you. So build your own Winter Solstice ritual this year and have some fun manifesting for the new year.

Here are some ideas to get you started…

You can celebrate the return of the light with a winter bonfire. Add a little witchy touch by writing down what you’re leaving in 2024 on a piece of paper and throwing it into the fire. You can do the same for your manifestation if you feel called to.

Get your tarot and oracle cards out and give yourself a seasonal read. The Celtic Cross is a great card spread to use and can be found with a quick Google. Then, journal about the insights and guidance it offers.

Call over all your woo-woo friends and have a Yule feast! Then, break out some Hygge cards and spark some deep conversations.

Tap into your inner witch and create a spell bottle. You can use salt to represent snow, roses to call in love, chamomile to bring in money, dandelion for good luck, and mugwort for improved psychic connection. Get lost in witchtok and follow your intuition to craft your perfect spell jar, then seal it with wax.

There is so much you can do with the changing of the seasons. If you like to work with the moon, astrology, or numerology portals, creating a solstice ritual will be perfect for you. So channel your most reflective self, tap into gratitude, and get manifesting so you can have the 2025 you truly deserve!
